Madeline Schell Photography

Hi, my name is Madeline Schell and I'm a senior at The University of Texas at Austin where I'm studying environmental engineering. My interests lie in sustainable systems; in my junior year, I began working as an undergraduate researcher in the field of modular hydroponics to encourage sustainability in urban environments. Outside of academics, I am dedicated to advancing progressive politics and worked as a fellow with Wendy Davis’ Congressional Campaign. Professionally and as a passion, I enjoy photography and view it as a narrative and deeply important art form. I have sold prints of my photography as cards for four years now and have self-funded my college education through doing this. I sell my cards at the farmers market during the summer in Crested Butte, Colorado. Being a photographer has made me more observant of the world around me and has provided me with many excellent contacts. It was the origin of how I decided my major; landscape photography made me feel a deep calling to dedicate my professional life to preserving and further protecting the natural world. It is the first form of art I felt compelled to better myself at and love that there is no end to improving at it. They say a picture is worth a thousand words so it is my honor to document milestones in people’s life such as graduating from high school or college.
